The Arthouse Oasis is really a little miracle, having burst into flower almost overnight, but it's roots have been growing for many years.
Gabrielle Vickery the founder of The Arthouse Oasis has always been arty, enjoying her school years soaking up the magic of her art lessons. She went onto College and then University, where she achieved a BA (Hons) in Audio Visual design. Her specialty was animation, but getting a position in an animation studio turned out to be impossible so after graduating she naturally moved towards design. She has been a graphic designer and illustrator ever since, and for the last 20 years has built up her Graphic Design business with her business partner Ralph Watson.
A year and a half ago 2 things happened to change her direction in life. The first was that she was diagnosed with breast cancer during a routine mammogram. The second was that her daughter was being bullied at school. These two hugely stressful experiences caused a massive shift in Gabrielle's perspective on life. Whilst recovering from major surgery and trying to find a new school for her daughter she delved into the world of home schooling, and soon came to realise how many children were being home schooled, with little opportunity to get stuck into art classes and workshops. And there the lightbulb flashed, and her decision to open up an art studio was formed. The next day she created her brand and started the renovation to create a magical space, and The Arthouse Oasis was born.
Whilst still running Storm Design and Print, The Arthouse Oasis is still very new and being formulated, but paint pouring and life drawing has now begun. She will be introducing other art classes over the coming months and hopes to become a creative hub for the local community, providing an opportunity for everyone to get involved.
